The Amazing Mother of Su Dongpo
She was from a prominent family. Her father, Cheng Wenying, served as Minister of Dali Temple in the Northern Song Dynasty. Among the "Eight Masters of Tang and Song Dynasties" in Chinese literary history, the Su family of Sichuan occupied three seats, including her husband Su Xun, and sons Su Shi and Su Zhe. As Su Xun's wife, she was never referred to as "Mrs. Su" or "Madam Su." Instead, all books referred to her as "Madam Cheng." It is rare in history for a woman to be addressed as "Madam" using her father's surname.
